About Sydney
Lyric soprano, Sydney Swearengin, is an emerging artist from California pursuing a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance at the Cali School of Music – Montclair State University under the guidance of Beth Roberts. Recognized for her versatility, Sydney has appeared in opera, oratorio, recital, and music theater productions. Her most recent concert appearance was as the soprano soloist for the East Coast Premiere of Jocelyn Hagen’s multi-movement, multi-media work entitled Here I Am for Montclair State University’s illustrious “Beatrice Crawford Memorial Concert” under the baton of conductor Dr. Heather J. Buchanan. Recent opera performances include the role of “Linfea” in Francesco Cavalli’s opera La Calisto, directed by Rebecca Jo Loeb and conducted by Kyle Ritenauer and “Zelda – Age 24” in award-winning composer Evan Mack’s opera The Ghosts of Gatsby directed by Karen Driscoll and conducted by William Hobbs. She recently participated in the young artist program “Respiro” where she performed scenes from L’elisir d’amore (Adina) under the direction of LeAnn Overton. Her recent musical theater performances include Ragtime by Terrance McNally, Curtains by Kander and Ebb, as well as a self-produced cabaret entitled “Where do We Go from Here?” This summer, Sydney will join the cast of Orpheus in the Underworld by Jacques Offenbach as “Cupid” at the Quisisana Resort in Maine under the direction of Alex Paul Sheeran.
Sydney is very involved with the choirs at Montclair State, acting as the Graduate Assistant for the choral department for her final year at MSU, earning her a full-ride scholarship. Alongside Here I Am, she has had the opportunity to sing the soprano solo “I know that my redeemer liveth” from the Messiah in the 2023 Winter Choral Concert. She even perform a tango to the song “Libertango” by Astor Piazzolla through her choral involvement.
Sydney was recently awarded the first place Scholarship Award from the Morris Choral Society Competition. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Pepperdine University under the guidance of Kate Bass where she earned her membership to the Pi Kappa Lambda society for music and academic excellence.
